College and Career Counseling
We begin preparing 8th and 9th graders for college by taking the EXPLORE test in the Spring of the year. This test, a product of the ACT testing company, provides a baseline assessment and helps determine what classes are needed to help prepare the student for the rigors of college. In the 10th grade year, students take the PLAN test. This test gives them an early indication of how they will do on the ACT. Our 10th graders are also advised to take the PSAT in October of their sophomore year. All eleventh graders are required to take the ACT once during the 11th grade as well as the PSAT in October. The PSAT is the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program. It also is an early predictor of how students will do when they take the SAT in their senior year. Seniors may elect to take the ACT or SAT. We do not have a graduation exam at Mobile Christian School.
Each of the tests we give come with a career exploration component. This allows the student to give thought to what careers might be on interest to him or her. The students meet with the counselor one on one to begin discussing these options as early as the ninth grade. All seniors have individual meetings with the guidance counselor at least twice their senior year to discuss their future plans.
